Men’s Health

Granada Men's Health Services

The life expectancy of Australia men is 79 years which is 5 years less than women. Men are probably not as careful as women when it comes to their health. They will see the doctor promptly if the fear they could be ill, especially if the man next door had a heart attack or someone at the workplace developed a cancer! But a routine check-up is something that a lot of men never really get around to. Why men seem to have a different attitude to their health is not completely clear. Maybe it starts in childhood with boys being taught to be tough and to take plenty of many risks. Fortunately some of these attitudes are starting to fade away. However there are certain areas of men’s health that are of special concern.

Most Common Causes of Death and Illness in Men are

Heart Disease

Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and unhealthy eating patterns and lack of exercise are the main causes of increased risk of Heart Diseases. Our well trained and experienced GPs can help you in these areas of preventative health and lower your risk.

Cancer

Prostatic and bowel cancers are common cancers we might be able to detect early by routine health checks. Our GPs can assess your risk and organise relevant investigations accordingly. Our GPs recommend testing blood in stools every 2 years and will organise a colonoscopy if you have a family history of bowel cancer. To assist in early detection of testicular cancer every man between the age of 19 and 32 should regularly check their testes. If you have a family history of prostate cancer, you should discuss with your GP about a rectal examination of the prostate and screening for prostate cancer with a PSA test.
